Sticky Window

The drivers side window would go down nicely, but would really struggle to come back up again. This is a cheap fix.

Remove the door card (remove hidden screw in door release catch, undo two screws under the door handle, remove the tweeter cover and there is also a screw behind there) and then gently lever the door card away.

Now use a knife to slowly cut away the foam cover from the inside of the door. You don’t need to remove it entirely.

With the window up look inside the cavity towards the door pillar. There is a rubber seal in there - I did try lubricating it, but the real problem was that it was no longer smooth and the window was rubbing hard against it. They are only a tenner, so I replaced it.

Sunroof not tilting up or closing properly on one side

The sunroof didn’t work and I thought I would take a look at it. Using the diagnostics I checked that the switches were working - which checked out OK.

I then happened to go into the BECM settings screen and noticed two things 1)The sunroof was configured as “not present” and 2) My BECM is UNLOCKED - which means I can change any setting I want (including the mileage) and I can also see my EKA code. So the BECM must of been replaced at some point and never locked again, which is really handy.

My unlocked BECM showing the sunroof as “not fitted”.  The EKA code was visible too (I’ve removed it in the screen shot).

I set the sunroof as present and wrote the settings back - and to my amazement the sunroof started working. Then when I came to close it, I noticed that it wouldn’t perform the tilt function on one side - which is what seals it in the opening. O bugger - no wonder it had been set to not fitted !

Now I had a jammed sunroof - why did I have to start pissing about with it!? Luckily it was sunny, so I had to get on and either fix it or work out how to get it closed.

You can access the parts by removing the sunroof glass. Start by removing the plastic trim pieces. Slide them backwards towards the boot of the car - they should then pull away revealing the T20 torx screws. Remove the two from each side and then lift the glass away.

There is a bracket at the end of the rail, remove this as it gives you a little more room to slide the unit forwards.

Remove the clip that holds the gold coloured front support. Remove the plastic cover that goes over the guide cable.

Ensure that the sunroof mechanism is in the “vent” (tilted up) position - you will then be able to slide out the plastic parts.

This is the part broken on mine. No way to repair it. A new runner is £150 - which for something that I will never use (sunroof) isn’t worth fixing.

I’ve seen a complete sunroof cassette on ebay - I may fix it in the future just to say that it works, but at the moment its not that important - so I put it back together again.

I disabled the sunroof on the BECM using the diagnostics.
