Twin turbocharged 350 Chevy project

7/3/05

Not much progress this weekend, made a prototype 90 degree elbow and with a prototype flare on the end for the turbo flange.

Got the proper 3" flanges for the turbos and all the correct 3" mandrel tubing from Jetex Exhausts. Picture doesn't show the twin 3" cherry bombs that will be fitted (unless its too quiet). Now say this in the voice of Paul Hogan as Crocodile Dundee "Thats not an exhaust mate....Now THIS IS AN EXHAUST!!

Upper side exhaust are pretty much laid out, nearside was simple, whereas the offside required allot of work to clear the starter and bulkhead. I need to move and tidy up lots of wiring and plumbing, I'm contemplating removing the engine so I can do a better job of it.

An unglamorous day spent laying on a cold garage floor working out the exhaust piping. Flexy piping is used to allow expansion and movement. Its very close to the starter, I will hammer it down a little.

Most of the time today was spent making the brackets to hold the silencers

Exhaust fabrication is now complete, overall I'm pleased with the results. Learnt the hard way when it came to mounting the twin cherry bomb silencers (not shown in photo), Thought I could take a shortcut and simply make one bracket that held both, but its better to allow each silencer to move independently of one another.

Using a bandsaw, TIG welder and engineers protractor make this job much easier and neater, although it still took several days of work. Tig Welding flexy tube is a nightmare, it should be brazed or just clamped.
