Before arrival

 

Request car NOT to be started/warmed before arrival

Make sure car is cold on arrival, if its hot - be cautious

Check oil and water level

Look how gunged up it is under the oil filler cap

Is car down on the bump stops? (leaky valve block)

Ask for BOTH keys and make sure they both work, Lock and unlock car a few times

Check all panels for straightness

Drop tailgate and lift the flap up, how rusty is the bottom edge of tailgate

Look at the brakes - rusty / pitted?

Have a look at the exhaust, will be rusty but discount if totally rotten

Start car up - should turn over quickly and idle

Most lights on dashboard should go out except ABS

Sit in drivers seat, turn steering wheel lock to lock make sure smooth and no noise

Check electric seat functions

Open and Close all windows, move the mirrors and check sunroof

Press heated seat button - should start to feel warm after couple of mins

Close door and raise suspension - if it takes more than a minute then tanks were very low (leaky)

Go outside and inspect all the air-suspension bags

Put your hand on the compressor (EAS black box, right hand side under bonnet) is it running all the time?

If yes, remove EAS lid, unscrew pump inlet filter and see if there is any suction on the inlet.

Walk round checking each door opens and closes nicely, check condition of window rubbers.

Ask to see Radio Code and EKA (emergency Key access) codes

 

 

 

 

Test drive

Goes straight

ABS light should go out after 20-30 yards

Suspension should go down to “motorway” if over 50mph for more than 30 odd seconds

Rattles, noises, gear change smoothness
